A starting hand with a pair of fours is called Sailboats .
Players who bet weakly even though they hold a strong hand are called Sandbagging
. While a player who plays foolishly is called a Sausage.
Scare Cards - Board Cards that look to be the best hand
A player who holds a weak hand, but one that has the potential to become
strong is called a Semi-Bluff . Often semi-bluffers will bet with the hope
that other players will fold, but if not then they hope that their hand will
improve.
Seven Card Stud - a form of poker common in online poker rooms and everywhere else 2 cards down, 4 face up and 1 last card down, round of betting after first up card and every subsequent card
A player who is known to win all the time is called a Shark . Sharks tend
to eat the weaker players called fish.
Showdown - the showing of cards after the last bets have been made
Someone who plays for the house, using their money is called a Shill .
While a poker game in which less than seven players participate is called
shorthand.
Slowplay is bluffing, but in reverse. Since bluffing means betting strongly
to insinuate a strong hand, slowplaying is betting weakly to suggest a weak
hand. This tactic is used to get more money in the pot by allowing the opponents
to thing your hand is weak, when in fact it cannot be beaten.
Small Blind - the early blind bet made before any cards are dealt
Smooth - the best possible low hand with a certain card, eg a smooth 7 is 7 4 3 2 A
A pair of eights for a starting hand is known as Snowmen . Similarly, Speed
Limit is the label given to the starting hand of a pair of fives.
If a player throws his or her chips into the pot, this is called Splashing .
Generally, splashing is considered bad etiquette in poker games and is frowned
upon.
Spit Pot - hands in which the pot is split between more than one player, happens very frequently in high-low games but ties may occur in games in which players makeup hands with community cards
Named after ten pin bowling, the starting hand with a seven and ten is
called a Split .
Chips are often described as a Stack .
Steal - to steal the pot is raising in expectation that all other players will fold, if they fold the player has stolen the pot
Five cards in ranking order is called a Straight . An example of a straight
can be 45678.
Similar to a straight, a Straight Flush is a straight where all the cards
belong to the same suit.
Street - a term to designate the rounds of betting according to how many cards have been dealt out
String Betting is generally illegal in poker because it is a tactic
used to confuse players. String bets occur when a player pretends as if he
is going to call but in actual fact he instead makes a raise.
Stud - games in which there are no community cards, the player plays only the cards in his/her hand
When an opponent draws against a player and consequently wins, this is
known as a Suckout .
There are four Suit s in poker: Spades, hearts, diamonds, or clubs. In
some versions of poker, all the suits are equal.
A starting hand with a pair of sevens is called a Sunset Strip .
